President Chakwera Heads to Kenya for World Bank Summit to Secure Food Security Funding"



Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera is set to depart for Nairobi, Kenya on Thursday for the International Development Association (IDA) Summit hosted by the World Bank. The invitation was extended by Kenya's President William Ruto, following the World Bank's approval of a significant funding package for Malawi.

The funding, worth K100 billion, aims to support Malawi's efforts to achieve food security, particularly in the wake of the recent declaration of a state of disaster in 23 districts across the country. Last month, President Chakwera declared the state of disaster due to the severe impact of food insecurity on the nation.

During the summit, President Chakwera is expected to engage with global leaders and development experts to discuss strategies for addressing food security challenges and exploring sustainable solutions for Malawi's economic growth.

The IDA Summit provides a crucial platform for Malawi to leverage international support and partnerships to address its development priorities, including food security, economic development, and poverty reduction.
