Zomba District Council Assures Collaboration with Malawi Electoral Commission for 2025 Elections
Reignhard Chavula, the District Commissioner for Zomba, expressed the council's readiness to collaborate with the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for the upcoming 2025 tripartite elections. Chavula made these remarks during a stakeholders meeting held at Sunbird Ku Chawe in Zomba, where MEC engaged with District Commissioners from Zomba, Machinga, Balaka, and Mangochi, along with other key officials including the Eastern Regional Commissioner of Police.
Chavula commended MEC for clarifying electoral roles and responsibilities, as well as explaining recent amendments to electoral laws. She affirmed that Zomba District Council will convene with the Multiparty Liaison Committee and other local stakeholders to strategize for the 2025 elections, ensuring they are conducted with integrity.
Commissioner of Police in the Eastern Region, Violet Magwaya, emphasized the importance of the meeting in preparing the police force to provide necessary security throughout the electoral process. Magwaya assured that the police will maintain professionalism and enforce electoral laws and guidelines to uphold the integrity of the process.
MEC Chairperson, Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale, underscored the significance of engaging electoral stakeholders to reinforce their understanding of their roles and responsibilities. He also highlighted MEC's efforts in discussing amended electoral laws in preparation for the 2025 tripartite elections.
Kachale reassured that preparations for the upcoming elections are progressing smoothly, indicating a proactive approach to ensuring a fair and credible electoral process.
