Former MEC Chair Dr. Jane Ansah to Contest as Independent Candidate in 2025 Elections

Former Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson, Dr. Jane Ansah, has announced her intention to run for the newly demarcated Ntcheu North West constituency in the upcoming 2025 elections. In a statement confirmed by her campaign director, Mphatso Mjojo, Dr. Ansah aims to represent the constituency as an independent candidate.

Mjojo, who also happens to be Dr. Ansah's brother, clarified that despite speculation on social media, she has no affiliation with the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Instead, she is determined to contest the election on an independent platform.

This decision follows Dr. Ansah's turbulent tenure as MEC Chairperson, during which she faced widespread criticism and national protests in 2019 over alleged irregularities in the presidential election. These protests ultimately led to the nullification of the election by the constitutional court in February 2020.

With her experience in electoral matters and a desire to serve the people of Ntcheu North West, Dr. Ansah's candidacy adds an intriguing dynamic to the upcoming electoral landscape. As the political climate continues to evolve, her independent candidacy will undoubtedly attract significant attention and scrutiny in the lead-up to the 2025 polls.
