Political Drama Unfolds: Nankhumwa Challenges DPP Leadership Decision in Court

In a surprising turn of events, Madzi, a staunch supporter of A Kondwani Nankhumwa, who currently faces expulsion from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) over his bid to remove party leaders from government positions, has filed a lawsuit challenging the party's decision.

The saga began when Nankhumwa, a prominent figure in the Mulanje region, obtained a court injunction restraining the DPP from expelling him from his leadership role within the party and government.

Despite the DPP's attempts to have the injunction lifted, Simeon Mdeza, a disgruntled member, demanded to hear the party's response. Nankhumwa then requested the court to uphold the party's decision.

In a twist, Nankhumwa's allies, Wapona Kita and Gift Katundu, also petitioned the court to ensure the DPP's response was heard. They argued that since 2022, the party had not followed similar procedures in delivering responses.

However, in a recent court session, Mdeza, the dissenting member, refused to accept Nankhumwa's plea for the court to hear the party's response, citing procedural irregularities.

In his defense, Mdeza stated that he did not oppose Nankhumwa's submissions but insisted that the party should be given ample time to present its response.

The court has scheduled another hearing to consider the DPP's response and Nankhumwa's plea to retain his position within the party and government.

This development highlights the growing tensions within the DPP as Nankhumwa seeks to maintain his leadership role in the face of upcoming elections.
