Former president of this country, and also former leader of the DPP party, Peter Mutharika, visited the Liwonde Road Block Mosque in Machinga where he intended to celebrate together with Muslims during this time of Eid Al-Fitr.

The late Gertrude Mutharika, former first lady of DPP, at the Mary Navicha Law House and the party's spokesman Shadric Namalomba were also present there.

At the mosque, Mutharika is applauded for providing food to the faithful.

In his message afterwards, Mutharika appealed to Malawians to think of those who are suffering from poverty, affected by floods and hunger, such as Freddy's family and those suffering from hunger.

He also urged Malawians to join hands in praying for the country in the upcoming general elections for peace and stability.

Balaka is one of the 23 districts in this country heavily affected by hunger.
